Showcase Project of Exterior Writing

English Composition 110 has really helped me learn to create writing that is not bland and boring to read. I have learned skills that have improved my writing ability to make my pieces of writing into “my” papers. Over the course of the semester, I have learned to drive my papers in the right direction, input personal anecdotes and my own opinions and voice in my papers, fix many grammatical errors (regarding spelling, punctuation, and many other grammar related errors), creating papers using the proper MLA formats, using quotations, paraphrasing, and many other skills in that department, my critical reading ability has thoroughly improved which helped in me in the writing of my papers, and I have also thoroughly improved my ability to peer review other papers which in total helped me learn to revise my own paper and create the best paper possible. The recursive writing process was formally introduced to me in this class throughout the semester. Using the recursive writing process, I was able to create and edit papers that were well written and thoughtful, not only in this class, English Composition, but in my other classes as well (Biology, Biology Lab, Psychology, and Inter Professional Health Sciences). Steven Pinker wrote an essay by the name of “Why Academics Stink at Writing”, which really helped me create well written papers for many other classes. A purely academic based essay with no personal drive through out the entire thing is a paper that is beyond boring to read, they really stink. Steven Pink expresses his beliefs on how pure academic essays are bad for the writer and obviously the people reading what the writer has written. Taking notes from Steven Pinker and his beliefs in his essay has really helped me produce fair quality writing pieces for all of my classes that all contain a personal drive, personal opinion, and personal voice to really spice it up and create a very well written paper that truly has the academic aspect, which would be all the super dry and boring information, but also the personal aspect which can completely turn a boring academic paper around and really make it not stink. All of the great tools I have learned in English Composition and Steven Pinker in his writing “Why Academics Stink at Writing” have truly helped me to become a much better writer and produce quality work, which will really benefit me in the future. Being able to craft well written writing is a necessity in my life ahead.
